Additionally, you may decline a job offer you’ve already accepted if a better opportunity arises. For instance, maybe you applied for a job in the oil and gas industry some years ago, but you didn’t get to hear from them after applying.

So, fortunately for you, after searching for jobs for the past years, an opportunity to work in a hotel as the Receptionist showed up. You applied for it and were successfully recruited to work in the hotel with a monthly payment of $2000, which you accepted.

Let’s the very day that you are to resume work, you get a call from the Oil company you applied for some years ago, and they inform you that you’ve been employed to work with them on a startup salary of $7,000 monthly. Of course, that’s a better chance for you to grow, and I’m not expecting you to be managing the $2k instead of going for your $7k offer. But still, you need to get off and do it right.

However this decision may be the best for you, but it may not be the same for the employer because their workforce can get affected. Your conduct may seem displeasing to your employer, affecting other people who came to seek a job there.

How to Politely Decline a Job Offer You Already Accepted

Below are what you must do if you want to decline a job offer you have already accepted.

1. Think about your decision

Before you inform the company’s HR or management, kindly consider this “Do I need to decline this offer? Is there a more excellent value that I’ll stand to benefit from if I still retain this job?

Pondering on this will help you to know if you are making the right choice or not.

You must understand that declining this job may prevent you from ever gaining employment in this company.

2. Check your contract agreement

It’s pertinent to glance at the company’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This comes in if you’ve signed an employment contract, read through it carefully to make sure there will be no legal repercussions to rejecting the job.

3. Inform Your Employer in Time

After you’ve checked and discovered that you are set to decline the job offer, you should tell your employer HR on time so they can start looking for someone else to replace your position in the company.

4. Be Honest and Grateful

Endeavor to tell your employer the truth about why you are declining the job offer. Be discreet about this without making the company feels inferior. Kepp the conversion brief and not lengthy.

Also, show gratitude to your employer by telling them about your positive experiences in the company. Maybe during the interview session.

5. Learn from this experience

Upon successfully declining the job, try to ensure that a situation like this doesn’t happen again!

If you are given another opportunity in the future, try to consider the offer before accepting it thoroughly.

You can ask for a more extended period to decide if you need to.
